Virginia's rugby A team started
off the spring break with a
discouraging defeat at the hands of
the Washington B team. The final
score rested at 20-6 for Washington,
their victory a result of four
attempted and four successful
conversions. The match was held in
Washington at windswept Haines
Point on the Potomac.
Washington's main strength was
their backline led by former Wahoo
football star Tommy Krebs and
their strong agile scrum.

Cavalier stickmen opened the
season with what has been referred
to as the biggest upset in a long
time by defeating the top-rated
Mount Washington Lacrosse Club
8-3. This is truly a rare feat, and the
reason for this success is somewhat
due to a strong set of rookies, such
as Doug Tarring, Pete Eldridge, and
Bill Fisher, led by experienced
defensemen Pete Coy and Doug
Hilbert. The fine goal tending of
Jim Eustace brought him the game
ball from a win that Coach
Beardmore was quoted as saying,
"This is the greatest victory that I
have ever been associated with."

In the sport scene on the
national level, UCLA's Lew
Alcindor still maintains the
spotlight even after his quick
decision to sign a one million dollar
contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Alcindor claims that his hasty
decision to sign with the Bucks was
intended to avoid a bidding war
between the NBA and the ABA.
Apparently he was unsuccessful,
because the ABA went right ahead
and offered him a 3.25 million
dollar package which still stands for
the taking.
