Terrapins Display Depth
In 62-42 Swimming Win

By Hugh Antrim
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

Records fell in every direction
yesterday in Memorial Gymnasium
as the Terrapins of Maryland swam
past the Cavaliers, 62-42. Entered
in the 200 yard individual medley
for his first time, Gary Chewning
recorded a time of 2:13.6 for a new
Virginia record. Nelson Workman
sped down 100 yards of the crawl
for a time of :51.1 and a new
school record.

But the Terps did a little time
breaking themselves. David Heim
participated in three events, won
three events, and smashed one pool
record during the course of the
afternoon. His record came in the
400 yard medley relay; the team of
Heim, Acconero, Hoffman, and
Polk bettered the old mark by more
than a second clocking a 3:52.2.

Dusty Hoffman accumulated a
total of 258 points from the one
meter board for a new pool record,
and Ron Brillhart blasted the
existing pool record in the
breaststroke swimming 200 yards in
2:22.7.

Coach Law was pleased with his
squad's performance in light of the
prospect that the Cavaliers were
certain to be outclassed. "Our boys
swam well and set some records,
but he [the Maryland coach] could
have named the score."

Finishing the season with an
admirable 8-2 record, Virginia
travels to Williamsburg for the State
meet this weekend.
