Gridiron Pulchritude

Coeds Vie For National Title

By Hugh Antrim

Football at the University of
Virginia entails a wide variety of
activities including everything from
Tilly Wright's artistic end zone
patterns to Coach Blackburn's diagnosis
of the weekly problems on
the Chris Cramer show. But there is
one important facet of college football
blatantly missing from the
green grass of Scott Stadium -
namely, the choosing and displaying
of a homecoming queen.

When the call rang out from the
higher echelons of the NCAA for
colleges to nominate campus beauties
for the NCAA College Football
Centennial Queen, Virginia's response
was noticeably absent.

The other fine scholastic institutions
in the area fared a little
better. Clemson's choice, Miss Judi
, was selected as the ACC
Football Queen. Miss comes
from the sedate stronghold of
Charleston, South Carolina, and is a
Math major. Judi was obviously
very articulate and sincere with her
feelings on football, "Fans yelling,
bands playing, cheerleaders
screaming and the team doing its
best - this is college football.
Cameras clicking, the winner
smiling, the losers holding their
heads high - this is college football.
Laughs, tears, our nation's flag
waving in the breeze, the Star
Spangled Banner and our Alma
Mater - This is college football and
I love it."

Some of the prizes that Miss
could walk away with include
$1,000 dollars and a brand
new Camaro. The official ballot for
this exciting contest can be found
in the Dec. 6 issue of Life magazine.
Those so inclined can pick and
choose from the 14 finalists; but
remember, only one vote per envelope
is allowed.

For some reason or another, the
University did not send a candidate
to the regional finals in Raleigh. Mr.
Sebo's efforts to campaign for a
Homecoming Queen apparently did
not meet with large scale success.
Whether this failure to find a Queen
is due to a feeling of fear on the
part of the student for the ever-creeping
state-Uism, or rather a
commentary on the prospects of
, has not been ascertained
as yet. But to conclude the
sad tale, Mr. Sebo found no talent
wandering in the direction of University
Hall, and the Wahoos went
unrepresented.
