With more difficult selections on
tap this week, the Sports Staff of
the Cavalier Daily has decided to go
with a professional in their
prognostications, along with the
regular crystal ball gazers.

Thus, we introduce Bill Reese.
Mr. Reese has ten years of
experience in this area, as a hobby.
His father, who has been picking
for the past 20 years, introduced
his son to his unique system.

The younger Reese then
modified that method to suit
himself, and came out with an
outstanding 75% correct ratio.

In short, the Reese System is
based on assigning power ratings of
a mathematical nature, associating
each college team with every other
team. As the season progresses, he
phases in a progression and change
factor on a learning curve.

Despite the opinion of the
public, Bill claims that most major
writers average only 70%, as
opposed to the figures around 80%
they usually claim. His 75% mark
therefore stands him in high stead;
not bad for a third-year
Architecture student.

Reese, by virtue of the past
weeks, stands in first place among
the seers, but only precariously so,
with a 24-5 record.

Three toss-ups are in the offing
entering Saturday's grid slate.
Clemson, off a sound loss to
powerful Georgia, is visited by
Auburn. The Tigers have been
erratic, tying Wake, and are still
looking for their first victory.

Mississippi, having upset
Alabama last week, looks hot
despite only mediocre pre-season
ratings. The Rebels face tough
Georgia tomorrow. LSU visits
Miami in the third toss-up. The
Hurricanes are always mighty at
home, but were soundly mauled by
Southern Cal last week.

North Carolina is the decided
pick over Maryland in a battle of
the losers. The Terps are in a drastic
slump, having lost 16 in a row.
N. C. State returns to the
Conference, where they are the
pick over variable South Carolina.
State has been beaten decisively in
its last two outings, by Oklahoma
and SMU. Speaking of the Sooners,
they are the selection over
traditional rival Texas.

Wake Forest, having given
powerhouse Minnesota a real run,
should pick up a win over hapless
VPI. In unanimous selections, Air
Force should stop a sad Navy
contingent, and almighty Purdue
should handle Ohio State.
