With this issue the Sports Staff
begins its erstwhile attempt to pick
the winners of the weekly key
pigskin clashes that will occur on
gridirons this fall.

Readers are invited to compare
their own choices with those of the
sages who are sticking their
necks out in the interest of
enlightening the public.

The staff member with the best
average will have the honor of
seeing his surname moved to the
box's far left margin. The number
two picker will be the second name
from the left, etc.

The "gang" includes former
sports editor Jack Glenn, current
co-editors Messrs. Cullen and
McKean, plus four up-and-coming
staff writers who will be trying
their best to publicly embarrass
their superiors.

Safe bets for this Saturday's
action seemingly are Alabama,
Clemson, Florida State, Penn State,
and South Carolina. The close one
matches VMI-Vanderbilt while the
games with the most national
interest pit USC against Minnesota
and Oklahoma with Notre Dame.
