Softball Season Nears Close

By Rick Quesada

As the High Point softball season
nears its finish, two divisions
have deadlocks for first place. In
Division 1 Chi Phi and ZBT both
have 5-1 records while Phi Psi
and Beta trail close behind with
4-2 marks. In Monday's action
Chi Phi shut out SAM 10-1, and
ZBT blanked Phi Sig 7-0 to preserve
the tie for first place.

In the second division another
close race is developing between
DKE and Phi Kap, both of whom
have 5-1 records. DKE kept its
ranking by smashing KA, 14-1,
while Phi Kap likewise stayed on
top by beating PiKA, 12-2. Meanwhile
SAE maintained its lead edging
Chi Psi, 10-9.

In Division 3, Theta Chi is on
top with a 5-1 record, having
squelched by Phi Delt 6-5 on Monday.
But ATO, after beating SPE,
4-2, still has a chance to tie for
the lead on Friday in what should
be the best contest of the day.

In the fourth division, St. Anthony's
undefeated batmen clinched
the title by toppling TKE 11-9.
Zete stayed in second place with a
decisive win over St. Elmo 12-1

The final games before the playoffs
will be completed by this Friday.
Barring a series of ties that
would delay the schedule, the playoffs
which involve the top eight
teams will begin next Wednesday.
The champion should be decided
by the following Wednesday.
