St. A Leads After Winter Competition
Another season of High Point
Intramural action has come to an
end with St. Anthony Hall, Zete
and Phi Kap occupying the top
three spots in the standing. Basketball,
bowling, swimming, boxing
and squash have all been completed
and softball, golf, wrestling,
badminton, track and the
stumble-foot derby are about to
start as Spring descends upon the
University.
In the winter sports Phi Gam
took the basketball championship,
and SAE was runner-up. PiKA,
went undefeated through the
regular season and was considered
a lending contender for the crown,
was upset in the first round of the
playoffs by Zete, who in turn were
beaten by Phi Gam in the semifinals.
SPE rolled their way past Delta
Sig in the finals to capture the
bowling title. In the semi-finals,
SPE topped TKE and Delta Sig
beat Chi Psi, last year's champions.
PEP won the consolation round.
Phi Kap and Phi Delt finished
in a tie in swimming and as a
result will share the championship
honors.
With two winners in the final
round, St. A. took the boxing
title formerly held by Kappa Sig
Zete was the runner-up
Bloodworth of St. A. took the
Outstanding Boxer Award for his
performance in the 129 pound
class.
St. Anthony also took the top
honors in squash, followed by Chi
Psi. Tovi Kratavil of St. A. took
the singles title and AEPi's Ron
Arenson was second.
High Point Softball this
afternoon and will continue every
Monday and Wednesday through
May 1. Sixteen games will be
played today, spread over five different
fields. Last year's champs,
Chi Phi will start off against PiKA
and Sigma Phi last year's runner-up
will begin next Monday against
DU.
Track and field events will be
held on only two days. All field
events will take place on May 7
with the qualifying running events.
The running finals will be held
on May 9th.
The stumble foot derby will be
held on April 18, the Thursday
before Easters Weekend.
