Farmington Golfers
Putt Down Cavaliers

By Bruce Dorrler

A cold and windy day prevailed
on Sunday, but it did not stop
the Farmington-U.Va. golf
match. Farmington won the
A-team match, 18 1/2-8 1/2,
but the Cavaliers defeated
Farmington's B-team, 30 1/214
1/2.

Farmington's A-team was led by
University law student Vinny
Giles' 72, the low score for the
day. His round included a 20-yard
chip into the hole on number
11 for a birdie: Both Stan
Fisher and Jim Kite had 75s,
while Buddy Loving shot a 77.

Paul Samanchik was low for the
Cavaliers with a 75. Samanchik
played well, but was plagued by a
cold putter throughout the round.

Don Baker and Doug Rogers shot
a 78 and 79 respectively, while
Robert Dunn had an 80 and Bubba
Victor an 82.

Paul Bochm and John Wentz
were low for the Wahoos' B-team
with 80s. Tom Wander, John
Rhoades, and Dirk Smith came
in with 81s, and Jay Jennison shot
an 82. The B-team won four out
of five matches from Farmington.

Mark Finn was low for Farmington's
B-team with a 76; Sam
Wells followed with an 85.

Next for the golfers will be the
Palmetto Golf Tournament in
Orangeberg, South Carolina. This
will be held March 28-30 and will
feature teams from the Carolinas,
Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and
Virginia.
