Heavy Weights Doom
Cavaliers' Grapplers

By Jack Glenn
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

The wrestling team crept out of
town two nights ago to come to
grips with West Virginia, but few
people noticed because the match
was not listed on the schedule.
Listed or not listed, however, the
match proved too much for the
Cavaliers as West Virginia swept
the upper weights to take the
match, 25-11.

First on the fare, Charles Sutton
gave Virginia almost half of
its points by pinning his opponent.

Dave Williams followed up Sutton's
success with a 5-3 win of
his own. Incidentally, he now
posts the best record for Cavalier
matmen over the season. His record
stands at 4-1-1.

Close Fight

At 130 pounds Jon Shurberg
almost beat the Southern Conference
champ, but lost 8-9. The
margin between victory and defeat
depended upon the differences
in riding times of the two grapplers.

The next weight class was the
last to be enjoyed by Virginia.
Chuck Westcott had to make a
comeback to edge his opponent,
4-3. He won with the help of two
minutes riding time.

In each of the next six matches
the Cavaliers were not so lucky.
John Pegues, Tom Moore, Pete
Faber, Ron Bright, Jay Douglas,
and Mac Horton all lost.

Too Much Weight

Perhaps Bright had the best excuse,
though. Wrestling in the 167
pound class, he performed way
beyond his class, for he normally
works out in the 145 division.

This Friday the grapplers travel
again, this time to do battle with
Duke.
