Undefeated Aquamen
Seek Fifth Victory

By Ted McKean
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

Saturday afternoon, Virginia's
only undefeated team, Coach
Ralph Law's swimmers, lay their
unblemished 4-0 record on the line
against the toughest team they
will have faced thus far this season,
the mermen of Catholic University.

This is the team which first knocked the Cavaliers from the
ranks of the undefeated last year.
The Virginians took a similar record
as they own this year into
that meet, and were upended by
the Catholic team, perhaps from a
touch of overconfidence, perhaps
because they were competing in
alien territory, away from their
murky, friendly water hole in the
south end of Memorial Gymnasium.

Back Home

If Virginia is defeated Saturday,
at least the reason will not be the
same as last year's. Not only are
the swimmers at home this time
in their own lovable little natatorium,
but they are really, really
up for a knock down-drag out
battle.

Co-captain Jack Wilson summed
up the situation in these words,
"This will be, without a doubt,
the most exciting meet at Virginia
this year." Wilson was not
promising a win, and emphasized
that the meet could go either
way, since Catholic too has a
powerful team.

Support Needed

But what one could glean from
conversing with him and fellow Co-captain
Terry Gromel is that, for
the first time this year, the swimmers
could really use the support
of all their backers. Even a hundred
people in the restricted confines
of the pool could sound like the
vociferous crowd at Green Bay
for the championship game.

Here is the chance to see one
of Virginia's top teams fight to
maintain an outstanding record in
a meet that not only should, but
will, be a true cliffhanger. Be
there: 2:30 Saturday, sharp.
