Clubs Celebrate Weekend

Polo, Rugby Face Yale, UNC

Rugby, that all prevailing, all
enthralling game of grunts, groans,
and great times will enrich the
weekend this Sunday in a match
on Nameless Field.

The Blue and Orange heroes
of Virginia will put their undefeated
season on the line in a
two o'clock meeting with the
rough, ready, and hung-over Tarheels.

Such living legends as Munny
Yeats, Julian Rainey, and other
renewed ruggers have been honing
their skills to a razor edge
for this ancient rivalry, one that
won't fail to quicken your pulse
and shorten your breath.

The Virginia Rugby Team is
now recognized as one of the top
teams in the nation and the best
of the East Coast without a doubt.
Besieged by invitations to tournaments
and requests for magazine
articles and pictures, the team
went into seclusion for this
week's game.

Hours of skull sessions and
tiring practice have resulted in a
new look in the normally friendly
ruggers. Tremendous pushing by
their hard-driving coach Toby
Kratovil has reduced the team to
its basic animalistic ferocity.

Pivoting around Hooker Carroll
Ladt, the fast moving serum has
developed a masher offense. With
the height of Captain Jim Rollins,
the speed of Dave Blumberg, and
the weight of George McCullem,
the fabulous Virginia scrummers
should have an unbeatable combination.

Sunday will also see the Virginia
Polo team—with an unbeaten
season—take on the NCAA champions
Yale. The match will be
played at 2:30 and should be one
of the best.

There is no better way to end
the weekend than watching a fine
match on a beautiful afternoon
with beer, babes, and blankets.

Virginia will field a team that
hopes to stop the Yalies' habit of
winning more than any other Intercollegiate
team. Tony Adams and
George Greenhalgh will share the
duties of the number one position.

Pivot man Willie McCormick, a
good man in the clutch will play
number two. McCormick is
winning wide renown as one of
the better number two men in the
country. At number three, will be
Randy Jones, one of the nations
top scoring threats.

Looking ahead, the Ruggers visit
Death Valley in Baltimore next
weekend for the toughest match
of their schedule.
