Terps Top Booters

Monday afternoon the University
of Maryland's soccer team
beat the University's eleven 4-0
at the Terps' home field. The defensive
effort by the Cavaliers was
notable as the score was only 1-0
at the half against one of the best
soccer teams in the nation.

Maryland's top scorer with two
goals was Steve Rush, who started
this fall practicing as the football
team's place kicker, soccer style
naturally. Harry Bittencourt,
Maryland's All-American, and Ed
Conner scored one apiece.

It should be noted that Maryland
did not score one from the field of play. The tallies came
from two corner kicks, one penalty
kick, and one free kick. One score
was a fluke as a Virginia player
knocked the ball from his own
goalie's hand into the goal.

The Cavaliers played well defensively
against a team which
hasn't yet been scored upon.
Danny Abramson, Virginia's
goalie, played his usual good defensive
game.

At two and two, the soccer team
is playing better than they have
in the past. The next game is this
Thursday, October 12 at 2:30 p.m.
against Randolph-Macon on
Carr's Hill field.
