Booters Beaten 4-0
By Lynchburg Eleven

Coach Gordon Burris got the
"real tough game" that he expected
from the recently deposed
Mason Dixon soccer champions
Thursday afternoon in Charlottesville.

Lynchburg College began and
ended the scoring, erupting for
four big goals in the third quarter
to shut out Virginia and to
hand them their first loss against
two victories in college play.

Goalie Danny Abramson played
an outstanding game in saving ten
goals until Tom Longsdorf placed
a shot in the upper right hand
corner of the goal with 4:30 gone
in the third quarter.

All-American Russ Taylor was
credited with an assist on the play
and from there on in, it was all
Taylor. Three minutes later the
native Philadelphian booted a ball
into the goal which Goalie Abramson
had just batted away. Duplicating
this for the third score, Taylor
then wrapped up the scoring with a
beautiful head shot off a corner
kick.

The Virginia defense, lacking
coordinated teamwork, had the
most trouble attempting to clear
the ball out of the congested area
within the restraining line.

As a footnote...John Taylor,
younger brother of Lynchburg's
star was one of the seven second-year
men starting for Coach Burris.
Along with John Taylor and Danny
Abramson, captain Steve Kleinman
and John Bakhaus stood out
in this hard hitting game.

The hustle and depth shown by
Virginia against a soccer team as
tough as Lynchburg gave them no
reason to hang their head. Playing
against such a good squad was
probably a valuable experience for
future competition.
