Virginia's "A" Side Will Travel To Washington For A Tough Test Against Sud-Americana Club

Part 2 of the great quest for
the coveted Commonwealth
Cup of East coast rugby is
ready to commence. A mean,
lean side of our own ruggers is
set to enter the fray in a
critical contest this weekend
with tough Sud-American in
Washington.

Sud-Americana edged the
ruggers in a previous clash
earlier this session, blemishing
the rugger's record with one of
its only two losses of the fall
season.

The "A" side will be
playing without the trusty
Courtney Hoopes, who's left
Charlottesville to live in
Richmond. Player-coach Jay
Waldron analyzes the situation
with "we're hopeful but we
lost Courtney Hoopes."

Vying to replace that
polished cog in the Virginia
machine are a couple of
ex-college gridders who should
add a bit more bulk and muscle
to the lineup.

There's no dearth of talent
to choose from as a record 84
prospective recruits showed up
for the first practice. Three
former "B" siders, Ondrasik,
Trotte and Nellor, are bucking
hard for the prestigious and
hard-nosed "A" side.

The "B" side will not be
affected adversely by this
vertical mobility. Waldron is
confident "it's going to be the
best "B" side we've ever had."
Incentive for this side perhaps
comes from a planned foray to
Florida during Easter's to mop
up any Southern rugby
resistance.
