Always Colorful Tigers On Display Here Tonight

By FLETCHER THOMPSON

There will be no rest for the
Cavaliers after their Saturday
night destruction of Penn
State. Waiting for them in
U-Hall tonight is a crucial ACC
contest against sixth-place
Clemson.

While the prospect of
another meeting with Tiger
coach Tates Locke and his
band may not excite Wahoo
fans, Coach Bill Gibson claims
large and vocal crowds are
essential in the Cavs' remaining
home games, all against league
opponents.

At the moment there are
still tickets left.

The 'Hoos will be out to
reverse a 64-65 semester-break
loss to the Tigers in their
Littlejohn Coliseum snakepit, a
place where Clemson
opponents rarely play well. It
was the first conference win
for the Bengals.

Locke, who is Clemson's
biggest drawing card, has been
making quite a name for
himself recently in his one-man
war against league referees.
Against North Carolina in the
North-South Classic, Locke,
obviously a student of
non-violent protest, saw fit to
walk out with four seconds
remaining and his team
hopelessly behind.

Saturday after a
disappointing 69-66 loss to
Maryland at Cole Field House,
Locke invited more
controversy by claiming, "We
do everything else first class
and we have ham and eggs for
refs. It's a shame."

While not many would pin
the term "first class" on the
Tigers, they're not bad for a
sixth-place club.

Best of the bunch is
probably 6-9 center Dave
Angel, whose hedonistic
lifestyle has frequently found
him at odds with the more
conservative Locke. At
Littlejohn, Angel, who usually
plays well against the Cavs,
personally brought them down
to earth after their UNC upset.

With Gus Gerard in foul
trouble for most of the game,
Angel virtually had his way on
the boards, pulling down 21
rebounds and contributing
several clutch free throws.

Except for Angel, the only
other big man in the Tiger
starting line-up is 6-6 forward
Jeff Reisinger. Reisinger,
whose vicious style of play has
apparently put him in Locke's
good graces as he is the only
man to start every game,
averages 11 points and pulls
down 5.8 rebounds a game.

Backing up Angel and
Reisinger are a trio of big men
who should get plenty of
playing time. There are 6-8
forward Mike Browning, 6-9
center Wayne Croft and 6-7
forward Ricky Hunt.

While Browning is not a bad
rebounder, and Croft has a fair
hook shot, Hunt is known
primarily for trying to duke
out Maryland's Len Elmore last
Saturday.

The remainder of the
Clemson starters will come
from a pool of guards. Most
likely to be out on the court at
tip-off time are Van Gregg, the
team's leading scorer with a
13.8 average and a 43.1 field
goal percentage, Terrell Suit
and team captain Bud Martin,
the league's leading foul
shooter.

Other possibilities are
Anthony Brown, known as
"Tony," "Rudy" and "Jive",
and Ron Dipasquale.
