State Wins
VMI Trackfest

N.C. State led the way at
the VMI Winter Relays over
the weekend, winning three
relays.

Jim Wilkins anchored
Wolfpack victories in the
distance and 4-mile relays
State's other victory came in
the shuttle hurdle relay.

Maryland was the only
other team to win more than
one event as the Terp sprinters
swept the 880 and 440 relays.

Virginia's Phil Meyer won
the individual title in the
2-mile run. The Cavalier ace
turned in a 9:01.9 clocking to
edge Penn State's Bruce Skiles
(9:03.0).

Danny Buggs, a West
Virginia wide receiver who was
a candidate for All-American in
football, was named
outstanding performer in track
for his victory in the 60-yard
dash and his participation on
the Mountaineer's winning mile
relay team.

Sam Phillips of Pembroke
State was honored as the
outstanding performer in the
field events on the strength of
his 6'10" high jump.
