Tully, Sefcik Lead Cavs

its in a disheartening prelude
to last night's Duke game, the
Cavaliers' junior varsity
dropped its first game of the
year to the Blue Devil JV's,
81-75.

Starting their first game of
the year as JV players, Brian
Tully and Bob Sefcik led the
Cavaliers with 18 points apiece.
Ned Tiley chipped in 16, and
Spencer Graham added 10.

Despite enjoying a slender
lead for most of the first half
and a 39-38 advantage at
intermission, the young Cavs
went cold at the start of the
second half and allowed Duke
to score six straight points.

Sefcik Leads Rally

Then Sefcik, who had hit
only three of nine shots in the
first half, led a rally. But the
Cavs were stymied in their
comeback by poor passes and
ill-timed fouls.

In spite of their turnovers,
the Wahoos narrowed the gap
to three points at 70-67. At
that point, Paul Fox took over
for the Blue Devils. Fox, the
leading scorer for the
undefeated Devils, began a
series of nice drives down the
middle and hit several short
jumpers. He scored seven of
the last 11 points for the
Devils, finishing with 14
points.

Fox Stars For Duke

Fox' heroics overshadowed
the torrid outside shooting of
Tully and Sefcik in the final
minutes. The guards each hit
two long jumpers in the late
stages of the contest. Sefcik
finished with 12 points in the
second half.
