158–Pounder Tom Derrickson is One Of Four Cavalier NCAA Wrestiers

It was back in what seems
like the Dark Ages to much of
the Charlottesville community,
when Kevin Michaels was still
in nursery school, that Cavalier
Henry Jordan finished among
the top six heavyweights in the
land.

"We should get a
place or winner this year," says
Mr. Edwards of his squad's
prospects in the NCAA
wrestling tourney which begins
Thursday afternoon in Seattle.

The best bet to fulfill
Edwards's prediction is, of
course, Michaels, who, in his
fourth year, faces his last shot
at gaining national prominence.

Michaels is by no means the
Cavs' only chance for a finish
in the top six. 158-pounder
Tom Derrickson, who has yet
to come off the mat loser this
year, also has a shot at a seed.

Dave Wendell, who will go
at 126, won't be counted out
by anyone who's heard of him.

Surprise ACC champion
Mike McGonnigal, is the fourth
Cavalier who will make the trip
to the great Northwest.
