Southern Cal Still Nation's Best,
Tide, 'Huskers Vie For Second Place

By CLARK EMERSON

Season-long leader Southern
Cal remained the country's top
team, according to the weekly
UPI listings.

The Trojans, 18-0 winners
over Oregon, were followed by
the Crimson Tide of Alabama,
who outclassed Southern Miss
by 37 points.

Nebraska, who routed
Oklahoma State 34-0 for the
defending national champion's
fourth successive shutout, rose
from last week's fifth place to
third.

Ohio State, with a closer
than expected 28-20 victory
over Wisconsin, and Michigan,
who captured the Little Brown
Jug in beating Minnesota,
stayed in the first five.

The largest movement of the
week was Colorado's decline
from seven to fourteen after a
20-17 loss to unranked
Missouri.
