John "Raindrop" Rainey Will Get The Starting Call Saturday

Although missing
three-fourths of two games,
Harrison Davis holds a 203
yards bulge over George Allen
Jr. in the passing department
of the statistics released
Tuesday by the University
Sports Information Office.

Davis has thrown 115 times
and connected on 41 for 521
yards and four touchdowns.
Allen has attempted 63 passes
and completed 28 for 318
yards and one touchdown.

Split-end Dave Sullivan
heads the receiving corps with
27 receptions for 323 yards
and three TD's. Slotback
Chuck Belic has snared 11
passes for 182 yards.

Injured Billy Lanahan leads
the pass-catchers in average
yards per reception with 18.3
yard average.

Fleet-footed Kent Merritt
leads the ball carriers with 88
rushes for 378 yards and 75.6
yards a game. The speedster
from Lane High is averaging
4.3 yards a carry. John
"Raindrop" Rainey owns a 2.9
average on 15 carries for 44
yards.

All–ACC candidate Dan
Blakley leads the defensive
backfield in aerial thefts with
two steals for ten yards. Doug
Jones has picked off one pass,
but returned it for 27 yards.

Of the five kick-off return
men Coach Don Lawrence has
employed, Kent Merritt has
been the most effective with
seven returns for a 21.6 yard
average. Rainey is second with
five returns for a 16.2 average
and Lanahan is third with a
15.2 yard average.

Gerard Mullins is the top
punt-returner with seven
returns for 63 yards. Steve
Sroba has six runbacks for 42
yards.

Kicker Billy Maxwell and
receiver Dave Sullivan lead the
team in points scored with 18
points apiece. Maxwell has hit
on all nine extra points and
three out of four field goals.
Sullivan has three touchdowns.
