A Sellout Crowd Is Expected For Tonight's Game With University Of Maryland's Terps

Students Are Reminded To Display Good Conduct As Technical Fouls Can Called On

Since a win in the freshman
preliminary has been known to
warm up a crowd for "the big
one" to follow, tonight's
meeting between the
Cavayearlings and Maryland's
Baby Terps could be more than
just a meeting between two
fine ACC first-year squads.

Although no one doubts
that a Virginia win is a
possibility it would be
generally recognized as a major
accomplishment. Lefty
Driesell, you see, has again
turned over to freshman coach
Jim Harrington a tall team
studded with high school stars.

Center Tom Roy, who
measures a tidy 6-9 and hails
from Connecticut, is
Harrington's superstar
candidate this year and has
been living up to pre-season
expectations. A raft of big
name schools wanted him but
Driesell, as has been noted
before, has a talent for the
acquisition of this kind of
ballplayer.

Forwards will be Barry
Cutler, a 6-7 native of Buffalo,
N.Y. much sought by the
Cavaliers, and Owen Brown, a
6-8 leaper from La Grange, III.
The Baby Terps aren't too
deep height-wise but these
gents have served them well in
their two previous openings.

Last week they rolled over
Georgetown's Little Hoyas
111-76 but stumbled against
George Washington's
highly-touted freshman five by
three points, losing 88-85.

At guard Harrington will
employ two men mentioned on
various Prep All-American
teams in Donny White, 6-3 and
from Pittsburgh, Pa., and Billy
Hahn, one of those "good little
men", standing only 5-9 but a
stickout back in Gary. Indiana
where some good basketball is
played by men of all sizes.

In their initial appearance as
a team before local fans the
Cavayearlings, now 1-1 after
beating Washington & Lee and
taking the meat from Duke,
will doubtless go with their
usual starting five.

In the 6-8 to 6-7 range up
front will be Spencer Graham,
Dan Gerard and Dan Bonner
and Coach Terry Truax should
again offer his pair of New
York City area guards, Andy
oninti and Brian Tulley.

Both teams will eschew
slowdown tactics and play a
running style that should
please early arrivals. The
Cavayearlings have added
another ACC team, N.C.
State's Wolflets, to their
schedule this year and U Hall
fans will reap the benefits by
getting a sneak preview of next
year's conference.

Game time will be 5:55 pm.
and, while no one will be
arriving early to get a good
seat, those fans unsatisfied
with only one
Virginia-Maryland game should
be entertained in good fashion.
