Cavalier 'A' Team
Belts Norfolk, 13-6

Concluding its best fall
season ever, the Rugby "A"
team mastered the Norfolk
Rugby Club, 13-6, Sunday, in
Nameless Field action.

The "A" squad finished the
campaign undefeated in college
and state competition and
achieved the number one
position in the final Eastern
Rugby Union rankings. Playing
primarily against other clubs'
"A" teams, the Turques posted
a 5-3-1 record for the season,
while the Cavalier "C" lineup
had a 7-2 mark for the year.
The University's 4th side had a
3-3-1 season. All of the teams
were successful this past
weekend.

Leading the "A" team to
victory were center Ronnie
Pulliam, wing forward Byron
Shankman and Mark Krebs.
Pulliam converted a try, scored
four points and delighted the
crowd with a 60-yard run.
Shankman also had a try and
four points. Krebs was the high
scorer for the Cavaliers with
five points, scoring a
conversion and a penalty kick
against Norfolk.

Playing with one man down
after Morgan Cooper retired
from the game with a broken
cheekbone, the "A" team was
able to defeat a squad that had
been beaten only once in ten
games and which was
especially physical.

The University's "B" team
tied Norfolk's "B" platoon 7-7.
Several of Norfolk's players
had seen action in the "A"
game and stiffened the
competition facing the
Turques. For the Cavaliers,
wing Frank Roda had a try and
four points, with Mark Storm
adding a penalty kick and three
points.

"C" and 4th side
competition, Sunday, was the
James River Rugby Club of
Richmond. Led by
"Dynamite" Joe Seals and the
barroom scrum, the "C" team
clobbered its foe, 19-3.

Leading the scoring for
the "C" team were center Joe
Jennings, with eight points,
and Peter Clark, who scored
seven points on a penalty kick
and two conversions. The 4th
side triumphed, 12-6.
