Riders Trample Bulldogs, 9-6
Polo Action Was Fast And Furious Sunday As Riders Defeated Yale, 9-6, At Farmington
Cavaliers Take on Oxbridge Next Week After Victory Over Intercollegiate Champs
Polo fans braved Sunday's
freezing wind in order to cheer the
Cavaliers to a 9-6 victory over Yale,
the intercollegiate champions at the
Farmington Hunt Club.
Virginia held a slim lead over
Yale in the first chukka. Reid
Graham scored one goal, and a
pony goal contributed by one of
Yale's ponies gave the Cavaliers a
2-1 lead at the end of the first
chukka. John Stuart, the high
scorer with 5 goals, scored two
goals in the second chukka,
however the score remained close as
the first half ended with Virginia
ahead 4-3.
Third Chukka
In the second half the Cavaliers
managed to hold Yale at four goals,
and John Stuart again scored two
goals to give the home team a two
goal lead at the end of the third
chukka. Thus the Cavaliers entered
the fourth and final chukka still
unsure of victory, but a spectacular
goal by Reid Graham, another goal
by Stuart, and a pony goal brought
the Cavaliers to a 9-6 win in one of
the most exciting games of the
season.
Next Week
Next week Virginia will face
Oxbridge which features Reid
Graham's younger brother Lyle.
