Heavyweights Eye Title Bout

By Bill Nachman
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

Smokin' Joe Frazier goes up
against Muhammad Ali next
Monday (March 8) in what should
be the "Heavyweight Fight of the
Century." The Madison Square
Garden-based bout will be seen here
at the University on a 30 feet high
closed circuit apparatus installed at
University Hall.

Seats for the affair are going fast
at ten dollars a shot. For those
lucky enough to attend the
following will be a preview of what
to look for. Perhaps those who
don't now will later regret their
decision, but, nonetheless, will
enjoy this quick glance at the styles
of the two boxers.

Frazier, a Philadelphia product
sponsored by Cloverlay, a
prospering corporation with
Smokin' Joe as chief asset, has
fought hard and fast in running up
a 26-0 record. His style has been
likened to the German Army of
World War Two — a Blitzkrieg
approach. According to Joe,
"They're all the same to me
because I change my style for
nobody. I know only one way to
fight and that's to go after my man,
move in on him, crowd him, punch,
punch, punch."

Likened to a windmill, Frazier
seems to be never-ending in his
movement. Smartly synchronizing
an onslaught of punches with a
shifty arrangement of bobs and
weaves, Joe is a puzzling target. The
opposition never can be quite sure
where the blow will land since his
body and head always are floating.
This could especially be seen in
Frazier's demolition of Jimmy Ellis
in the WBA (World Boxing.
Association) tournament.

However, Frazier has a tendency
to drop his head. Maybe Ali can
incorporate this so-called weakness
into his own style of attack. But to
compensate for this Smokin' Joe
will do a lot of body punching to
keep the taller Ali honest. Boxing
