Matmen Face Three,
Tough Test Expected

By Tom Bell
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

After two impressive season-opening
wins, the Cavalier wrestlers
travel north this weekend to Lancaster,
Pa. to face what, according
to Head Coach George Edwards,
will be their "toughest test until the
ACC Championships."

Harvard, William and Mary, and
Franklin and Marshall will provide
the competition in the quadrangular
meet which starts Friday night
with two rounds, and ends with a
single round on Saturday afternoon.
Rounds start at 7:00 and
8:30 p.m. Friday, and at 1:00 p.m.
on Saturday.

Stiff Opposition

All three opponents are expected
to provide stiff opposition
for the Cavaliers. Franklin and Marshall
is described by Mr. Edwards as
an "up and coming team" which
returns three defending runners-up
from the tough Eastern Conference,
which contains Lehigh, Penn State,
and other top teams. Harvard is
another "up and coming team",
while William and Mary has won
three straight Southern Conference
titles, and beat the Cavaliers 21-14
at University Hall last year.

Looks To Veterans

Mr. Edwards looks for four veteran
wrestlers to provide the
"experience which we are counting
on" in the meet. Co-captains Ted
Moore (167) and John Pegues
(150), should lead the way along
with 190-pounder Kevin Michaels
and 134-pounder John Pitas, who is
"up a weight class from last year,
but doing a real fine job," according
to Mr. Edwards.

Two Drop In Class

The only major lineup change
for this week is that Ted Moore will
drop a weight class to 167 pounds,
while Fenton Priest, who wrestled
at 190 last week, will move into the
177-pound slot. Priest is a first year
man. Jim Holland (118). Jack Johndrow
(126), Don Drew (142). Denis
Bittenbender (158), and Bob Fowler
(heavyweight) complete the lineup.
All are first year men except
Johndrow.

Demanding Schedule

Looking forward to the demanding
weekend schedule which calls
for each wrestler to wrestle three
matches in a period of less than 24
hours, Mr. Edwards says he is
hoping that the team's "conditioning
the past couple of weeks will
pull us out on top." Only twelve
wrestlers are making the trip, so
most all of the wrestlers will be
competing in all three rounds.

Virginia wrestlers will wrestle
several matches against each other
school in each round with the final
results not coming until the end of
the third round on Saturday.
