Gridders Tangle With Corps

Virginia football fans are looking
for a break in the weather
Saturday against spirited Virginia
Military Academy with the stakes
being a recaptured momentum for
the victor.

Coach George Blackburn's early
season sophomore sensations in the
air war, Larry Albert tossing and
Dave Sullivan receiving and running,
will be broken up this week as
passer Albert is definitely sidelined
with a separated left shoulder.
Sullivan, who has hauled in more
aerials than any other Cavalier (15
for 175 yards), suffered a slight
fracture of the nose but will not
miss the contest with the Keydets.

Starting his first varsity engagement,
6′5″ soph Bill Troup will try
to get the bugs out of the Wahoo
offense as well as his passing arm in
replacing Albert at the helm. Troup
took over at the controls after
Albert was injured during the first
series against Wake and exhibited
his inexperience and understandable
jitters by missing on his first
seven passing attempts, tossing two
to Wake defenders, and fumbling
another. A halftime break allowed
him to get his thoughts collected
and connected on 10 of 18 for
better than 100 yards.

Considering that the Cavs have

suffered two team point losses and a
twenty point defeat, it is a wonder
that the opponents have gained
only 300 yards more than our boys.
The next guess would be that the
source of the Wahoos' troubles is
the preponderance of mistakes
made by the offense, a theory
which is borne out by the fact that
Virginia has fumbled six times more
than the opposition and has had
more than twice as many passes
intercepted.

It would seem that the Cavaliers'
goal this week is to stop killing
themselves with errors which stifle
an offense that doesn't have gas to
waste.
