Stickmen Face Maryland
For ACC Championship

Virginia's lacrosse team
entertains Maryland tomorrow
afternoon with the ACC title,
and possibly a share of the
national title, on the line.

The Cavaliers will be
defending the conference title
they won last year with a 9-7
win over the Terrapins at
College Park. Maryland, a
perennial power in national
lacrosse play, has lost only to
Navy and Army, both by close
scores.

Maryland Strong

The Terps feature a
midfield which, according to
Coach Glen Thiel of the
Cavaliers is "probably the best
we will face," a "most
dangerous high scoring" attack,
and a defense led by Jack
Daily, who held Army star Pete
Cramblet to his lowest point
production of the year.

National Title?

The game could mean a
share of the national title to
the Cavaliers should either
Army or Johns Hopkins knock
off the undefeated Midshipmen
of Navy, 11-7 victors over
Virginia two weeks ago.
Hopkins, which meets Navy
Saturday, Army and Virginia
are currently tied for second
place in the title race with one
loss each in college play.

Coming Off Win

Virginia, derailed by Navy
two weeks ago, got back on a
winning track last week with
its first win in history over the
Carling Lacrosse Club, 11-6.
Carling topped Maryland in an
early season scrimmage.

The Cavaliers will be
looking for their first win over
Maryland in Charlottesville
since 1964, and their first
successful defense of an ACC
title in history, "something the
kids very much want to do,"
according to Theil. "Our young
team has come a long way
since the season opened," says
Theil in pointing out the
importance of tomorrow's
game.

Game time is 2 p.m. at
University Hall field.
