Hobgoood Scores 34

Yearlings Swamp Tigers, 93-80

Jim Hobgood led the
Virginia Cavayearlings to their
eighth victory in 13 starts, at
University Hall last night,
93-80, over the Hampden-Sydney
freshmen.

The Cavayearlings, hitting
on 51 per cent of their field
shots, led the Tigers
throughout the game, the
outcome of which was never
really in doubt.

The lead see-sawed back

with Hampden-Sydney leading
for the first time, 19-18, with
10:42 left. But Jim Hobgood
hit on a long jumper to send
the Cavayearlings ahead to

a lay-up just before
intermission, giving Virginia a
44-36 lead.

The opening play of the
second half typified Virginia
play for the game. Burry
Parkhill went high into the air
to get the tap and sent the ball
towards the Virginia basket.
Jim Hobgood grabbed the pass
and went in for the easy
lay-up. Virginia played a
hustling run shoot game and a
tight zone defense throughout
the contest. Hobgood hit on
another and Gerry hit three
straight, giving the
Cavayearlings a nine point lead
with eighteen minutes left.
From there, the Cavayearlings
built their lead to a game high
of 16 points with little over
five minutes remaining and
again with 1:10, the final
