Kennelly Suffers Elbow
Injury Against GW
Play-Maker Kevin Kennelly Suffered Elbow Injury Tuesday
There is something about
George Washington University that
brings out the worst in the
University of Virginia eagers. Last
year, after an initial victory over
Richmond, the hopeful Cavalier
squad went down to defeat at the
hands of the Colonial team, led by
the sharpshooting talent brothers.
In addition to that loss, the
Virginia eagers also received a
bigger blow when Chip Case fell
and tore the cartilage in his knee,
putting the fourth-year guard out
of action for the rest of the season.
In Tuesday evening's rematch
lightning struck the floundering
Cavaliers again.
Late in the second
third-year man Kevin Kennelly
dove for a loose ball and sustained a
badly sprained arm. After further
examination it was revealed that
the Charlotte guard had severely
bruised his elbow and most likely
will sit out the next two games.
Early reports to the effect that his
arm was broken were dispelled and
Coach Gibson is sure that Kennelly
will be able to play in the
Tournament.
One of the best ball-handlers on
this year's basketball team, he
currently ranks fourth in the
conference in free throw
percentage.
In to the GW loss, Gibson
yesterday "It was a
. We should have won
it but it's just one of those things."
Rebounding off their first
conference win over Maryland, he
said he felt that a over the
Colonials could have given the
Cavaliers the momentum they need
to make a good showing in the
conference tournament. "The loss
us, but I feel that we will
bounce back."
