Wrestlers Head North
For Five-Way Match
Coach George Edwards and his
young Cavalier wrestling squad
travel North this weekend to close
out first semester action in a
five-way meet with a group of
unknown Pennsylvania schools.
Shippensburg, Mansfield, Edinboro,
and Kutztown, all small
state-supported schools, will provide
the competition in the two-day
affair in Shippensburg, Pa. Mr.
Edwards says he has little knowledge
of any of the teams. "It's
hard to know what we're going to
face when we get up there, except a
lot of wrestling. All we know is that
we've got to go up there ready to
wrestle. I understand that Edinboro
has four or five good freshmen, but
I haven't heard anything about the
other three."
The Cavaliers will be at full
strength except for injured 167pounder
Ted Moore, who will be
able for only limited action.
Kevin Michaels who usually
wrestles at 177-pounds has dropped
to 167 for the match. Third
year-man Pete Faber, who lettered
on last year's squad, will wrestle in
the 177-pound class.
There will be five rounds in the
round-robin meet, with each wrestler
wrestling four matches, one
against an opponent from each of
the other four schools. The match
will start Friday night with the first
round at 6:30, with two rounds
Friday night, and three rounds on
Saturday.
The squad will be coming off of
a three week layoff during the
Christmas break, and will not
return home to action until after
the start of the second semester
when they return home to meet
powerful William and Mary on
February 7 after the first year
basketball game that afternoon.
