Four Teams Advance
In IM Grid Tourney
Zeta. Pi Kap, and ATO
officially moved into the semi-finals
of the Intramural High Point
League Tournament yesterday with
opening round wins. The fourth
quarter-final game, won by Sigma
Chi, is as yet unofficial, pending a
hearing on a protest filed by the
apparent losers, ZBT.
The protest arose from a disputed
call of blocking in the
backfield by ZBT on a play which
resulted in a touchdown, but was
called back. IM rules allow blocking
only within a yard of the line of
scrimmage. After the disputed play,
Sigma Chi went on to win, 15-13.
Sigma Chi picked up its points on
touchdowns by Dave Ross and
Mark Gettys, and a safety. For ZBT
the scoring punch was supplied by
Joe Tennant and Cooper, who each
scored once.
Zete easily advanced to the
second round with a 33-18 win over
PIKa. Tony Conway, Phil Peacemaker,
Jim Potter, Paul Reid, and
George Mills each crossed the goal
line once for Zete, while Tom
Boyer scored once and Steve
Braintwain twice to lead PIKa.
Pi Kap rolled over St. Anthony's
20-6 as Doug Lowenhaupt, Sandy
Schwartz, and Dick Opp scored
touchdowns for the winners. Hal
Jones picked up the only score for
St. A.
Ron Shorb led ATO to a 26-19
win over Phi Gam, as he scored two
touchdowns. Russ Kirk and Mike
Ranney also scored for ATO. Bill
Buck scored twice to lead i Gam,
backed up by Greg Hodges, who
crossed the goal line once.
The tournament will continue
next Monday as Zete takes on Pi
Kap in the upper bracket and ATO
plays Sigma Chi in the lower
bracket. However, should ZBT's
protest be allowed, the second half
of the Sigma Chi-ZBT game will be
replayed before Monday, with the
winner facing ATO for a shot at the
finals.
