Cavalier Horsemen Host
Yale's Indoor Champions

Polo Team Members in Action Last Fall. This Sunday the University's Horsemen Engage Yale.

The Yalies, after an early season loss to Virginia, came back to take the Winter Championship.

Among other events scheduled
this Easters weekend is the Virginia-Yale
polo match. The Elis of New
Haven bring to Charlottesville an
impressive record of winter
victories, but the Cavalier
horsemen, who rode well last
Sunday against an experienced
Farmington trio, will be eager to
upend the national intercollegiate
champs.

Yale tripped the Virginia polo
club this winter, playing on an
indoor surface, by a 12-6 score in
the intercollegiate tournament; and
the Elis went on to defeat Cornell,
17-16, in the finals for the
championship. The Cavaliers,
however, blasted the Yale team last
fall 8-1, in a Brook Hill Farm
match.

Ray Norden will head up the
Virginia riders at the number three
slot. Norden, rated at one goal, will
have mainly defensive
responsibilities. Rob Rinchart, a
first-year man, will ride at number
two, and John Cutler will be at
number one. Cutler collected three
goals last weekend, while Rinchart
picked up one.

The Yale Bulldogs feature Allan
Harris, rated at two goals, in the
number two position. At number
one will be Bill Brown, and Jim
Brandis has the number three
duties.

The Virginians appear to have
no official game plan, but Rob
Rinchart spoke for the team when
he stated that one bit of
unfortunate but necessary strategy
was to keep Saturday night
partying at a minimum. As is the
usual custom for the home side,
both Yale and Virginia will be
riding the same ponies. Although
this is a distinct advantage for the
Cavaliers, it could hardly be
construed as a margin of victory.

Rinchart expressed confidence
that the Cavalier horsemen could
win this crucial match. He
maintained that Virginia would
have to utilize plenty of teamwork
and deploy a spread offense to beat
the Elis.

Match time at Brook Hill Farm is
slated for 2 Sunday afternoon, with
George Greenhaugh officiating.
