Upsets by Zete and Sigma Chi
marked High Point League hoop
action Tuesday night, as the first
round playoff contests got underway.

In perhaps the biggest upset of
the season, Zete defeated PiKA
31-30 to eliminate the previously
undefeated PiKA contingent from
the playoffs.

The decisive point was scored by
Peter Schmidt, who sunk a foul
shot with one second remaining
to turn the tide for Zete. Besides
Schmidt, the victors were led by
Austin White, who was high scorer
of the game with 12 points.

The other upset came in an
elimination match between Sigma
Chi and Phi Kap in which Sigma
Chi out a 35-34 win over
Phi Kap to gain a spot in the
playoffs. For Sigma Chi, the big
man was Jeff Porter, who scored
20 of his team's 35 points.

In another first round playoff
match, SAE was very impressive
in trouncing Phi Psi 65-47 in a
game considered beforehand to be
a closely matched contest. Most of
the damage inflicted by SAE on
Phi Psi was done by David Molesco
and Chuck Edward, who scored
25 and 15 points respectively.

In the remaining playoff, DKE
by ATO 41-38, led by
Joe Ferens' 18 points. The success
of DKE can also be attributed to
its ability to contain the usually
high-scoring Rick Dygve, who
managed to score only 11 points
all night.

In the first round consolation
game, Bob Henderson and Chi
Phi rolled over St. Elmo 80-31,
with Henderson scoring 18 points.
Bill Oliver and Scott Montgomery
were almost literally a one-man
to pace Sigma Nu to 32-31 victory
over Theta Delt.

In other first round consolation
matches, ZBT toppled Theta Chi
46-32, AEPi thrashed PEP, 43-29,
and SPE edged past Beta 41-37.
