Scene Of Action In Tonight's Encounter With UNC

Tar Heels Rank Third In Nation, Feature Several Stars

Following the action of The
Turtles and Anthony and the Imperials,
Cavalier entertainment
seekers may be further disappointed
with University Hall results
as the University of North
Carolina basketball team meets
Virginia under the lights tonight.

Currently enjoying a 20-1 record
and the prestige of being known
as the third best team in the nation,
North Carolina will present
what is doubtlessly the most formidable
competition for the Cavaliers
this season.

Miller Leads Squad

Led by All-American Larry Miller,
the starting five lists the names
of Rusty Clark, Charlie Scott,
Dick Grubar, and Bill Bunting.
But if there is a secret to Carolina's
success, it lies in the fact
that Coach Dean Smith constantly
relies upon his bench strength and
is constantly rewarded.

Losing only to Vanderbilt this
season, the Tar Heels have had
little trouble in amassing their current
record. In the first contest
between Carolina and Virginia,
the Cavaliers succumbed to a
powerful offense and tenacious
press, 108-64.

Coach Gibson Stoops To Conquer, Or So He Hopes

Faces Tough Test Tonight Against North Carolina's Squad

Commenting on tonight's game
which begins at 8 p.m., Virginia
Coach Bill Gibson said, "I've
heard more talk about this game
around the Grounds than most
games in the past.

"All week long we have been
living the word upset. Our boys
are ready, but we know that we're
going to need stellar performances
from every man on the squad to
pull off the victory.

"This year's team is a great
Carolina squad. They can hurt
you in numerous ways, with their
offense, their press, and their
bench. They want to go into the
ACC Tournament with the top-seeding,
which means that every
game in the conference is very
important to them."

Yearlings Play

Before the varsity game, however,
there is a first-year team
encounter with the Tar Babies. This
game, too, promises to make Virginia
a decided underdog.
