Grappler Tom Moore Throws Weight (About 152 Pounds) Around in Tech Match

Before the season's opening
wrestling match with VPI, fledgling
coach Mike Caruso was suffering
the pre-game trepidations
common to the members of his
profession, but there was one bout
that he didn't worry about.

"You know, out of all the boys
I'm sending out there tonight, the
only one that I'm sure I can count
on is Tommy," 'Tommy' is third-year
man Tom Moore, of Lookout
Mountain, Tennessee, undefeated
this year at 152 pounds.

Moore proved that his coach
had called the turn that night,
winning the Cavaliers' only bout
from the Gobblers in that 24-7
loss. He decisioned Art Hish 7-4,
and looked very quick and aggressive
in doing so.

The next week, against Carolina,
Moore demonstrated that his first
triumph had been no fluke. He
pinned the Tar Heels' Jenks Bressly
early in the second period to culminate
a match that he had dominated
completely.

Although no points were scored
in the first period of that bout,
Moore was denied three takedowns
only by his opponent's propensity
for moving off the mat before
he could be brought down. But
the second stanza started with
Moore in the down position, from
which he could at least get a hold
of his man.

No sooner had the whistle blown
than Moore, not content with
merely escaping, reversed Bressly
and with a well executed cross body
hold pressed the Carolinian's
shoulders to the mat. The pin
put the match on ice for the
Cavaliers.

Winning comes naturally for this
scion of a wrestling family.
