Dr. G, Parkhill, Hobgood, Walker
Star In Orange-Blue Contest

By BILL BERNO

Good things were seen by
the fans who came to U-Hall to
watch the 1972 Orange and
Blue Game last night.

Spectators were treated to a
high-powered Orange offense
which sped to a 40-24
advantage in the first half, and
a gambling White defense
which forced turnovers and led
the Whites to a 113-96 victory.

The contest was expectedly
sloppy, but many outstanding
individual efforts brought the
crowd to its feet. Both teams
ran in the first half, but a
tough Orange pressure defense
forced the Whites to slow
things down in the final nine
minutes of the game.

Gus Gerard was the high
scorer in the game, and
blocked several shots. "Doctor
G" hit 32 points. He was also
singled out by Coach Bill
Gibson for his rebounding
performance, as was teammate
Lanny Stahurski.

Jim Hobgood gunned in 27
points, some from closer to the
press table than the basket.
Andy Boninti popped in 20
points, including his team's
final ten points of the first
half. Topping off his effort was
a 40-footer at the buzzer.

Barry Parkhill tallied 20
first-half points, and added ten
in the second half. When he
wasn't shooting, "Mr. BP" was
hitting the open man with
pinpoint passes. Wally "the
Wonder" Walker added 24
points to the Orange total on
12 of 17 field goals.

Whites dominated the
boards, grabbing off 54 bounds
to only 32 for the Oranges.
Stahurski had 17 caroms. The
Orange team was forced into
26 turnovers, most of which
were converted into field goals
by the Whites.

Amazingly enough, Mr.
Gibson said after the game,
"We didn't show much of our
stuff offensively."
