Fleet-footed Kent Merritt

4.3 yards a carry. John
"Raindrop" Rainey owns a 2.9

All–ACC candidate Dan
Blakley leads the defensive
backfield in aerial thefts with
two steals for ten yards. Doug
Jones has picked off one pass,
but returned it for 27 yards.

Of the five kick-off return
men Coach Don Lawrence has
employed, Kent Merritt has
been the most effective with
seven returns for a 21.6 yard
average. Rainey is second with
five returns for a 16.2 average
and Lanahan is third with a
15.2 yard average.

Gerard Mullins is the top
