The University Rugby Club In Sunday's Victory Over The Washington Club

Neither cold, wind, of the
Washington Rugby Club could
stifle the University Rugby
Club Sunday as the A Team
ruggers persisted in their
winning ways with a 9-3
victory.

The ruggers rum, was the
key to the triumph as it
constantly wrested the hall
away from Washington and
gave the Virginia offense an
opportunity to get to work
Extreme pressure was put on
the Washington side scoring
mistakes Peter Schmidt's
shadow-like defense on former
Notre Dame fullback Mike
Conrow soon took its tool

With ex-Blue Devil Jay
Calabresse hemmed in by club
president Mike Krebs, the
Washington attack stalled

The game fell into a rather
pronounced physical emphasis
and Washington gave the
ruggers a handful of penalty
attempts. Schmidt kicked three
3-pointers through the uprights
to account for all of Virginia's
scoring

Well-Drilled Team

Coach Waldron expected
the scrum to be the decisive
element of this particular
match and was proved right by
the results. The ruggers seemed
to be up for the game and
well-drilled.

"We played very well
together as a team. There were
no specific stand-outs",
reported Krebs Which is all
encouraging for the ruggers as
they get up for next week's
clash with the George
Washington U. Club "They
have an excellent nucleus of
experienced players who can
give us problems. It's not
exactly a cake-walk for us."
added Krebs.

Other Teams Lose

The sole dark spots of
Sunday contests were the
losses of the "B" side with a
31-0 score the "B" side at 17-0,
and a closely contested match
ultimately lost by the D siders
at 10-6 All played against
Washington Club sides in all
Suite it should be pointed out
that these sides have been
plagued by a string of injuries
and vacancies

Rugby enthusiasts can cheer
the ruggers on when they make
their first home appearance of
the year this Sunday at
Nameless Field The "A" side
match kicks off at 2 p.m
against GWU with the "B"
siders getting into the fray at
