Terrapins Edge Cavs In 45-42 Heartbreaker, Cop Coin Toss;
Parkhill Only Unanimous Choice For All - Conference Squad

McAdoo, McMillen, Burleson,
Wuycik Complete First Unit

Barry Parkhill led a tall,
young, and unsurprising group
onto the All-ACC basketball
team, announced yesterday by
the Atlantic Coast Sports
Writers Association.

The 6-4 third-yearman was
the only unanimous choice and
the only guard on the team, as
he was named on all 107
ballots, accumulating 214
points.

The team averages 6-9 in
height, and is made up of two
towering sophomores, a pair of
juniors, and a lone senior, the
group's only repeater.

Second to Parkhill in the
balloting was North Carolina's
Robert McAdoo, who was
named on all but five ballots
for 209 points.

Rounding out the first team
were Maryland's Tom McMillen
(198 votes), North Carolina's
Dennis Wuycik (189 votes) who
was the repeater from last
year's squad, and N. C. State's
Tommy Burleson (178 votes).

The first-team members
also make up the league's top
five in scoring.

There was a large gap
between the first and second
teams, as Carolina's Bill
Chamberlain, the most valuable
player in last year's NIT, led
the runner-up squad with 112
votes.

The second-team is also
dominated by younger players,
as Chamberlain is the only
senior. Rounding out the unit
are Alan Shaw and Gary
McIchionni of Duke, George
Karl of North Carolina, and
Len Elmore of Maryland.

North Carolina dominates
the squad with four of its five
starters on the ten-man team.

"It's a pity Scott
McCandlish didn't make at
least second team after all he
has done for us," was Cavalier
coach Bill Gibson's first
reaction when shown the
selections following Saturday
night's loss to Maryland.
