With rumors of Head Coach
Roy Lester's impending ouster
swirling about College Park,
the Maryland Terrapins host
the Cavaliers, Saturday, in
what shapes up as a bout for a
share of third place in the final
ACC standings.

With no less than five
ex-starting quarterbacks on its
roster, Maryland has had few
problems at the position.
Indeed, sophomore Al Neville
leads all ACC signal callers in
passing statistics. Neville has
completed 52 per cent of his
tosses for 1195 yards and
eleven touchdowns, but, if he
should falter, senior Jeff
Shugars is a more than
adequate sub, who has shown
that he can move the club.

Despite a rash of injuries at
the backfield and receiving
spots, the Terrapins have had
no trouble putting points on
the scoreboard. Fullback Tom
Miller and tailback Monty
Hinkle are currently the
running backs behind Neville,
replacing Scott Shank and Art
Seymore, both of whom have
been injured for several weeks.

Neville has a stable of fine
receivers, including high school
classmate Dan Bungori, who is
second in the league in
receptions in addition to
scoring eight touchdowns.
Tight end Dennis O'Hara, a
starter at quarterback two
years ago, is Maryland's second
leading receiver with 28
receptions.

Sizeable at least, Maryland's
offensive line features 6-2,
245-pound Bill Meister, "the
offensive lineman of the year"
for 1968 and 1969, who was
injured all last year
Underclassmen Ken Scott and
Ray Wethington play tackle
while Meister and junior Tim
Brannan hold down the guard
posts. Ron Keeman and 6-5,
240-pound sophomore Bart
Purvis share the snapping spot.

Maryland's defense has
received few plaudits this year
and the Terps have been
battered more than once. Guy
Roberts, who Lester admits is
his "best lineman" has been in
the doghouse lately as he was
benched during the Clemson
game due to rumored meetings
with Terp Athletic Director
Jim Kehoe, concerning Lester's
coaching future. Roberts, at
end, is defensive captain and an
All-ACC selection last season.

Maryland's defensive
backfield highlights deep back
Larry Marshall, the
conference's leading kickoff
return artist, who also paces
the league in interceptions and
return yardage. Bob Tucker,
who shared the quarterback
role with Shugars last season,
has played safety this year.
Linebackers Gary Van Sickler
and Tim Brant and Lee
Branthover each has a year
under his belt as a Terrapin
starter.
