Seek Vengeance For Loss

Kickers Face Terps

By TOM BELL

The Cavalier soccer team, after a
weekend loss to Clemson, will try
for their first win ever against
Maryland today when they take on
the Terps in College Park.

Maryland is undefeated this
season and has beaten Clemson,
2-1.

"They've got a real tough team
as always," said Cavalier Coach Jim
Stephens yesterday as he made final
preparations for the game. "After
the loss to Clemson, the team
should really be after them. This
will be the biggest game of the year
for us in the ACC."

Terp Stars

Leading the Maryland team will
be back Nick Skirka, an
All-American last year, and high
scorer George Taratsides.

The Cavaliers found the going
rough Sunday on University Hall
Field, as they lost to the Tigers 5-1
on the wet, muddy turf.

Jon Babashak fired three goals
into the Cavalier nets to lead the
Tigers, ranked fifth in the South, to
the win. Nabeel Kammour had a
goal and an assist to help the cause.

Connor Scores

Jay Connor had the only score
of the game for the Cavaliers as he
knocked in a loose ball after only
50 seconds had clasped in the third
quarter. The score brought the
Cavaliers to within one goal at 2-1, but the Tigers, who had never
before beaten Virginia, booted in
three more in the final half to win
going away.

The Cavaliers, now 0-1 in the
ACC, were ranked eighth in the
South going into the contest. They
are defending champs in the ACC.

Mr. Stephens notes that many
of the players on the Cavalier squad
have been playing together for
three years, and "if they don't beat
them this year, it may be a long
time."

The team is now 3-1 with wins
over VMI, Old Dominion, and
Roanoke.

Game time today is 3:15.
