Fall To Washington

Ruggers To Face South Jersey

By Bill Nachman
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

Hosting four matches Saturday
and then trekking to Richmond for
three more Sunday, the Virginia
Rugby Club finds itself faced with
another very busy weekend.

South Jersey invades to meet
the Virginians' 'A' side, while the
second Jersey side tangles with the
third Cavalier team.
Sub-Americano, a group of
Washington (D.C.) Latin
Americans, brings its first two units
to contend with the Turques and
fifth sides.

Being a relatively unknown
quantity, South Jersey is not
expected to tax the skills of
Virginia's highly-regimented
charges. 'The Jersey backline is a
complete question mark, while the
only tip making the rugby circles
about their scrum is that one of the
members of the second row stands
6-5, 260 (and has flaming red hair).

Sub-Americano also brings a
group of unfamiliar faces to
Nameless Field. However, this
group of businessmen and
professional personnel boasts
among its ranks two international
side players; one prop and a center
are the team's international side
members.

Then on Sunday it's on to
Richmond for the first, third, and
fourth sides. Richmond is a well
balanced unit composed of many
former collegians. Jim Hawkes, four
your standout for the Virginia Club,
finds himself now pitted against his
former comrades. "Steamboat"
Porter, 5-8, 200 pound president of
a Richmond bank, anchors the
scrum from lock.

Wins this weekend are essential
for the 'A' side, especially after
falling to the Washington Rugby
Club, 11-3, last Saturday.
