Coach Bill Gerry's successful
basketball squad has succeeded in
taking three of the five places on
the annual Big Five all-star team.
Repeating on the team are Cavalier
Captain Bill Gerry and junior
pivotman Scott McCandlish who
are joined this year by second year
guard Barry Parkhill.

Filling the other two slots on
the Big Five court quintet are a pair
of Virginia Tech standouts, senior
guard Lloyd King and sophomore
forward Allen Bristow. King also is
a returnee on the squad making the
composition of the team include
two seniors, a junior, and two
sophomores. Usually, the highest
vote getter among the winners is
named honorary captain, but since
this year, for the first time, all of
the members of the team received
the same number of votes, no
captain has been designated. Each
of the ballplayers received four first
team and one second team votes in
the balloting by the Big Five head
coaches. This also marks the first
year in recent memory that only
two schools have landed positions
on the squad.

All of the team members are
averaging in double figures with the
Tech duo leading the way featuring
King at 21.3 and Bristow at 19.5.
Parkhill is firing away at a 15.6 clip
while Gerry and McCandlish trail at
14.9 and 14.4 respectively.
Although The Cavaliers won the Big
Five tournament, the Gobblers won
the mythical regular season title by
virtue of their earlier victory over
Virginia at Blacksburg.

Named to the second all-star
team were William and Mary senior
Tom Jasper, Richmond sophomore
Mike Anastasio, Virginia Tech's
Charlie Lipscomb, Jan Essenberg of
Virginia Military Academy, and
Steve Dodge, also of William and
Mary.

Jasper and Anastasio were
closest of the five to the first team
with each of them receiving two
first team and three second team
ballots.
