Booters Beat Tribe,
Snare State Crown

Soccer supremacy in the state of
Virginia was attained by the Virginia
booters Saturday morning with
a 2-1 defeat of previously unbeaten
William and Mary on Carr's Hill
Field.

The Cavaliers, now -2-1 on the
year, played rather ragged soccer on
a very sloppy field in their winning
effort, and after ramming home
two quick goals in the opening
period of play, settled for making
the Indians play catch-up. Fred
McGlynn began what appeared to
be a romp in the making by flicking
the net with a rebound of Jay
Conner's blocked shot with only
four minutes gone in the contest.
The second Virginia score, only a
short while later, came on Jay
Zichi's direct free kick which was
on the mark.

William and Mary, which had
tied the Cavaliers during the regular
season, was outshot 31-10 during
the match but scored immediately
before the end of the first half to
ruin goalie Alex Boniewicz of a
shutout. The second half was a
defensive battle between the goalies
as neither club could sneak a shot
into the net.
