Cavaliers Face Pack
In Final Road Game
Virginia's Cavaliers head into
Tobacco Land again this weekend
to face the second straight
homecoming crowd in as many
weeks at North Carolina State
University in Raleigh.
Sporting a sub-par 2-5-1 record,
the Wolfpack is looking to get back
on the winning track after losing to
SEC weakling Kentucky. N.C.
State's wins came against East
Carolina and, most recently,
Maryland. The Pack's troubles seem
to lie in their porous defense which
has allowed an average of well over
300 yards each game, while the
offense has managed only a 200
yard average. Not particularly
tough against the rush, the defense
has permitted opposing passers to
log 132 yards per game, including
265 to South Carolina in a 7-7 tie.
Offensively, a combination of
signal-callers has not been able to
mount an effective air attack to
offset a rather weak ground game.
The top two quarterbacks, Pat
Korsnick and Dennis Britt, have
produced only 66 yards per contest
in addition to having thrown 17
interceptions in eight meetings. The
leading rushers for the Wolfpack,
halfback Don Bradley and fullback
Dave Rodgers, are only netting 31
and 26 yards a game.
Apparently, the toughest thing
for the Wahoos to overcome this
weekend in Carter Stadium will be
the jinx that the Pack has held over
Virginia. N.C. State has defeated
the Cavaliers in eleven straight
contests, or, ever since the
formation of the Atlantic Coast
Conference. The last two victories
have been by shutouts, the most
stinging of which was last year's
unexpected 31-0 pasting in Scott
Stadium.
