Riders Host Oxridge

Riding onto the field with a 3-0
record, the University polo team
will take on its first out-of-state
opponents, Oxridge, this Sunday at
2:30 at the Farmington Hunt Club
Arena on Garth Road.

The Oxridge polo club will fly in
its star players Sunday morning to
face the Virginia squad in what will
be one of the toughest oppositions
the malletmen have faced this season.

Oxridge, located in Darien Connecticut,
is the alma mater of Virginia's
ringer Reid Graham and now
stars his brother Lyle Graham.

Lyle is a one goal player and will
join teammates Adie Von Gontard
III, rated one, and Peter Henderson
0, playing on Virginia ponies when
they play on Sunday.

Adie Von Gontard comes from a
long line of polo blood, his family
owns the famous Pitchfork Ranch
where they breed and train their
polo ponies.

Adie has played often in national
tournaments with his father;
Reid Graham played with the father-son
team when they won the 5
goal indoor tournament last October,
and the seven goal outdoor
tournament at Bethel Page Long
Island.

Lyle Graham just won the five
goal indoor tournament in Greenwich
against Shallowbrook; teaming
up with Richie Carrol and George
Haas.

Facing this formidable team will
be the stalwart Virginia squad: David
Banks, captain and zero goal
player, Reid Graham the fiery 2
goal first- year man, Ray Norden,
one goal from Atlanta, and John
Stuart, alternate but fast rising even
paced player from Boyce, Virginia.

Students, faculty, and townspeople
are invited to roll out their
tail-gate for this afternoon equestrian
excitement at the Farmington
Hunt Club, five miles out Barracks
Road extended from the Route 29
intersection.
