Parties Offer Platforms

Virginia Progressive
Party

This platform presents many of
the objectives of the VPP. It is not
intended that every item mentioned
here will be accomplished within
the course of one semester or even
one year. It does mean that effort
and energy will be directed to these
areas and success in many will
result.

1. Rights and Opportunities

I. Active recruitment of disadvantaged
and black students.

2. Review of alumni recruitment
policies.

3. Continued pressure for a
meaningful black studies program.

4. Faculty exchange program
with Norfolk and Virginia State.

5. Immediate study and steps
designed to facilitate the transition
to co-education next fall.

II. Living and Social Conditions.

1. University pressure to improve
phone service in the Community.

2. Improvement of student
social facilities - rathskeller, night
club, expanded and improved student
union.

3. Extensive and varied housing
facilities for students.

4. Apartment rent stabilization
program.

5. Improvement and extension
of Student Health facilities.

6. Continued effort to secure car
privileges for 1st yearmen.

7. Establishment of student
book exchange.

8. Clarification of room change
policies for all students.

9. Support for residential college
plan.

10. Humanization of dorms:
rewiring and better lighting; modernization
of dorm interior; provision
of kitchen facilities; cable
television in each dorm.

III. Student Government

1. Complete support of new
Student Council Constitution, College
Council Constitution, and
concept of University Senate.

2. Appointment of students
representatives on College Faculty
Committees by College Council.

3. Total control of comprehensive
fee.

4. Immediate implementation of
First-Year Council with control
over visitation hours.

IV. Academics

1. Establishment of a permanent
curriculum revision committee with
at least one-third (1/3) student
representation.

2. Open faculty meetings.

3. ROTC: a) Incorporation of
academic ROTC courses into appropriate
college departments with full
credit. b) Courses not taught in
regular college department to be
taught without credit.

V. Board of Visitors

1. Continued effort to secure
student representation on the
Board of Visitors.

2. Open meetings with the
Board.

3. Full endorsement of Student
Council nominations to the Board
of Visitors.

THE VIRGINIA PROGRESSIVE
PARTY HAS WORKED FOR

PAST AND CAN GUARANTEE
THAT A CONTINUED EFFORT
ON ALL ISSUES CONFRONTING
STUDENTS WILL BE MADE. TO
INSURE CONTINUED PROGRESS
