Bischoff Snags Aerials

Bobby Bischoff Distinguished Himself With Seven Receptions

Tight End Was Good For 117 Yards in New Orleans Saturday

On an offensive platoon that has
managed but 21 points in the last
five outings, only a delicate probe
might find a stellar performance.
But on a sunny Saturday in New
Orleans, tight end Bobby Bischoff
ignored fate and grabbed seven
passes for 117 yards, a feat earning
him Cavalier Daily Player of the
Week.

Bischoff's Tulane performance
brought his seasonal totals to 28
receptions, 418 yards, and a 14.9
yard average. A letterman on last
year's 7-3 squad, the third-year man
stands 6-3 and weighs 205 pounds,
playing his high school football at
Thomas Jefferson in Richmond.

Coach Ken Campbell has high
praise for his end, "Bobby is as fine
a tight end as there is in the
league." Mr. Campbell cited
Bischoff's ability to play his end
from a position tight on the line or
from a split position.

Coach Campbell commented on
Bischoff's "excellent speed,"
although stating his need to
"develop his blocking." But he
added, "If we had eleven Bobby
Bischoffs we'd go undefeated."

A close association with the
Fellowship of Christian Athletes
has apparently contributed to a
"tremendous attitude this year"
from the tight end and to Bischoff's
assuming a lot of leadership on the
rather young offensive platoon.

Out of a grand total 92 passes
from Virginia quarterbacks,
Bischoff has garnered some 28, a
trend that might rank with the
heroics of Ed Carrington, who just
a few years ago broke records with
four touchdown passes against the
Maryland Terrapins.

With thoughts of Saturday's
finale with Maryland, Coach
Campbell relinquished praise of his
tight end to plead "the breaks have
just got to start coming our way."

And if the breaks are not
forthcoming Saturday in College
Park, then the blocking and receiving
capabilities of Bobby
Bischoff - along with those of the
other offensive players will be in
demand to put some Wahoo points
on the board.
