Hart Challenges Secondary
Wahoos Set For Blue Devils

Dave Wyncoop (39) Takes Pitch out From Gene Arnette In Last Year's 50-20 Drubbing In Durham
Wyncoop, Suffering Severe Ankle Sprain Against Clemson, Is Not Expected To Start Tomorrow
Tomorrow Tom Harp, who is
"expecting another tight close ball
game," and his pass-happy Blue
Devils invade Scott Stadium to try
to stone for last year's 50-20
embarrassment at the hands of the
Wahoos. With the likes of Leo Hart
and Phil Asack on their side, the
visitors from Durham should prove
a stern test.
Hart, Boy Everything, whom the
Carolina press calls "the Hart of the
Duke attack, "will be tossing
bullets and bombs to receivers such
as Marcel Courtillet and Wes Chesson
while Asack will team with Don
Baglien to spearhead the Duke
ground game.
The Blue Devils also have an
excellent kicking game, a phase the
Cavaliers are also strong in with
Dave Foreman. Dave Pughe, a
junior from Lynchburg, booted a
three-pointer last week from 43
yards out. He also spilt the uprights
from 20 yards away and added two
extra points to immensely boost
the Duke offense.
The Duke defense is another
matter. Last week they played with
true grit before losing to South
Carolina 27-20; but in the game
All-ACC middle guard Dick Biddle
aggravated an old leg injury and is
supposed to play only sparingly in
tomorrow's game. Duke's defense
without Biddle is like the New
York Namaths without Broadway
Joe.
But even so, a Biddle-less defense
could still be a match for a
Wahoo offense without injured
Dave Wyncoop and Rick Moschel.
After twisting his ankle last
week Wyncoop has been practising
in sweats. But yesterday "Wynnie"
practices in full regalia and "could
be ready for limited duty." He can
run straight ahead but has trouble
cutting, according to Coach Blackburn.
So the game's verdict is up to
Tom Patton and company - the
Virginia defense. The secondary
will most likely be tested the most,
with Hart serials bombarding Pete
Schmidt, Bob Rannigan and Bill
Lockwood from all over. Helping
out and covering the flats will be
linebackers Ed Kihm, Paul Reid,
"Possum" Page and Al Ferrara.
Al Sinesky and Tom Patton,
perhaps the two best defensive ends
in the conference, will cover the
corners while Andy Selfridge and
Jim Willits join the two big ends to
rush Hart on passes.
Virginia's offense, despite the
absence of co-captain Moschel and
the limited capabilities of Wyncoop,
should perform better than
last week, Jim Lacey, who picked
up 29 yards in seven carries last
week, will replace Wyncoop, and
Jim Carrington will take Moschel's
place in the lineup. Quarterback
Danny Fassio has a game behind
him and will start ahead of
alternates Mike Cubbage and Larry
Albert.
Pre-season All-ACC pick Dan
Ryczek will center the ball. Jim
Shannon and Tommy Thomas are
the guards. Gary Saft, Abby Sallenger
and Rick Kotulak will alternate
at tackle, Kotulak having recovered
from a slight ankle sprain.
Bobby Bischoff will again be at Photos by Bob Gidding Cavaliers Seek To Avenge Last Week's Defeat With Homecoming Victory Against Tom Harp's Devils

and Gary Helman, who scored both
of last week's touchdowns, will
alternate in the backfield to fill out
the offensive lineup.
The Falls Church High School
band, almost straight from the
Inaugural march, will entertain the
Homecoming crowd at halftime.
As a note of interest, the Blue
Devils will have on their side a
senior from Charlottesville named
David Trice. Trice was the quarterback
at Lane High School between
the Gene Amette and Mike Cubbage
eras. The defensive halfback
has been elected game captain by
his teammates.
