Maryland Game Will Decide Championship For Conference
Another championship will be
on the line this weekend as the
Cavalier lacrosse team travels to
College Park to face the past ACC
champs, the University of
Maryland.
Last year the Terps ended up in
the race for the national title, but
were beaten by Hopkins who then
claimed the crown.
So far this season Maryland has
lost 7-6 to Navy and 14-6 to Army
while remaining undefeated in the
ACC.
Much of the Terps' success can
be attributed to their tough defense
led by Craig Hubbard, Ken Brown,
and Thomas McClenahan. The
goalie, Norman Vander Schuyt, is a
consistently good performer.
Maryland is able to run three
midfields. The first group is made
up of Rusty Petit, Bruce Picirillo,
and Dan Furman. These middies are
backed up by Hugh Mallon, Barton
Ellinger, and Mark Donohue.
Scoring duties are handled by
Reed Kaestner, Fred Graham, and
Tom Laverty. Graham is currently
the most proficient of the scorers.
After defeating UNC and Duke,
Coach Buddy Beardmore's
stickmen will be looking to this
game to clinch the conference title.
